Because cyber attacks are the most latent threat that has the world today, the security company Secure Computing conducted a survey in the United States, Canada and Europe, the result of which was that the energy industry is the most vulnerable to cyberattacks, while the financial sector is better prepared in case of these.
More than half of respondents believe that the attacks already underway a 14 percent predicted that the greatest threats will occur in the next twelve months, and only two percent say they never carry out a serious attack.
These results, plus the fear of attacks in the energy sector have led to the expansion of the security legislation utilities since September 2008.
The energy industry is vulnerable due to the increase in the number of access points through the use of sensors in addition to contracts with third parties with remote access capability, increased use of IP-based networks, integration between corporate networks and operations , the use of common platforms such as Microsoft Windows, as well as the lack of attention regarding network automation and control system vendors.
The biggest bottleneck in improving the security of critical infrastructure are the costs, followed by apathy, as have shown analysts.
