BUILDING AUTOMATION

The convergence between the different systems of a building is essential for its proper operation, hence the importance of having a protocol that allows the articulation of the building systems.

Each protocol has its advantages, perhaps that is why industry sometimes can not seem to decide between the different options. But to make a decision one must know the different options; why in this edition ACR LATINOAMÉRICA will Rawlson O'Neil King, director of communications for the Continental Automated Buildings Association (CABA) and Toby Considine, co-chairman of the technical committee of OASIS oBIX. These two experts in the field will try to make an approach to one of the newest industry standards in building automation: oBIX.

The sustained growth of Latin American economies has had a positive impact on demand for automation; however, still weaknesses observed in regard to knowledge and application of regulations. Green buildings seem to be the technology of the future for the region.

In the past two years the world has entered a phase of some environmental concern, which, despite the efforts of some has not ceased to be an emerging cross because the largest polluters have not wanted to commit to a reduction of elements as emissions of greenhouse gases.

Measure temperature accurately is a prerequisite to meet the expectations of user control and building managers, therefore, the location of the temperature sensors is critical for optimal measurement. The difficulty of the installation can cause the location of the sensor becomes difficult, compromising the cost, quality and delivery time of the project.

Today, wireless technology is evolving rapidly. The above concerns regarding reliability, duration and cost of the batteries have improved to the point where wireless technology is an alternative to traditional sensors for common applications. The result is that today you have several wireless sensors available in the market area. According to a market study by Frost & Sullivan, the end of 2008 the volume of wireless sensors installed in the United States will be close to the number of wired sensors. Renovations are in facilities that benefit most from these devices. The wireless technology solves many of the initial difficulties during installation and relocation of the sensor allows a very low cost when space is reconfigured.
